Schenectady - Mary Cavarra, 98, of Chrisler Ave., passed away Thursday March 3, 2016. Born in Messina, Italy, she was the daughter of Salvatore and Carmela Saglimbeni Cannavo. Mary came to the Unites states in 1932 and was a seamstress at Ursula of Switzerland in downtown Schenectady. A communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for many years, Mary was a member of the Mt. Carmel Women's Society, Mt. Carmel Seniors and Knights of Columbus (Columbiettes) #201. Mary will also be remembered for her love of gardening and planting flowers. Along with her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband Philip Cavarra (1984); her son, Concetto Cavarra (1949) and her daughter, Santina Cavarra ((1943). She is survived by her nephew, Phillip (Elizabeth Christian) VanNatten and several others nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Pleasant St., Schenectady. There will be no calling hours. Burial in St. John's Cemetery.
