Mary V Buonanno

Mary Virginia Buonanno, 94, passed away at her home on Sunday, November 4, 2018. Born in Elmira, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ulisse and Victoria Oddi Spaziani. She graduated from Elmira Free Academy and in her younger years she worked at her families’ restaurants The Palm’s and Lib’s Supper Club. After she married, she moved to Schenectady. Mary was a hard worker and worked at her sister’s and later nephews’ Italian restaurant, Canali’s, for many years, until her late 80’s. She treasured the time spent with her family. She was a wonderful and caring mother, she was selfless. She also played a big role in her grandchildren’s lives, caring for them after school when they were young and continuing to be a big role in their lives into their adulthood. She was also overjoyed when she became a great grandmother. Mary was a devoted Catholic. She enjoyed music, cooking, having family over for dinners and dancing (she loved being the life of the party). In addition to her parents, Mary was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Armando Buonanno and by her siblings and spouses; Anna (Louis) Canali, James (Marion) Spaziani, Lena (Alfonso) Rucci, Helen (Frank) Lisi, August Spaziani, Henry (Helen) Spaziani, Ulisse Spaziani Jr., and Victoria “Theresa” (Henry) Alteri and niece; Eileen Gardner. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her children; Lisa (Jerry) Pizzemento and Vicki Buonanno-Carrieri, grandchildren; Christine (John) Lasch, Michael Carrieri, Nicolas Pizzemento and Paige Pizzemento, great grandchild; Avery Lasch, her sisters in law; Emily Spaziani and Nellie Spaziani, nephews and niece; Henry, Peter and Robin, as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 12, from 8:45-10:45am at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Schenectady, NY 12306 with a funeral mass taking place at 11:30am at St. Madeleine Sophie. Burial will follow at St. Cyril and Method Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America and sent to: 322 8th Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
