Martin T Govel

Schenectady-Martin T. Govel, 83, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2016 after a brief illness. He was born on October 15, 1932 in Albany NY, son of the late Martin H. and Anna Kochan Govel. Martin loved life. He enjoyed dancing, traveling, fishing, golfing and hunting with his sons and grandsons. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and his cat Kitty. Martin worked for and was a life-time member of the Steamfitters Union Local 669. He was a former Superintendent at RBM Sprinklers. He is survived by his children; three sons, Thomas (Deborah,) Donald (Nina) and John (Sue Peplowski), two daughters Christine (Dennis) Winch and Bonita (James) Horwedel, 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, two brothers, Stanley (Peggy) of Pasadena MD and Richard (Kathy) of Albany, a sister Laurette (Robert) Reagan of Rotterdam, the mother of his children, Doris Govel of Albany and numerous nieces and nephews. Martin was predeceased by his son Ronald , sister Eleanor Zasada, brother Leonard , second wife Sydneyand his loving companion Jean Smith. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Millview Assisted Living Residence of Latham for the friendly and kind-hearted care shown to Martin during the past year. Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc 1605 Helderberg Ave Rotterdam NY on Thursday March 31, 2016 from 3 pm to 6 pm.A Memorial service will immediately follow at 6pm at the funeral home.Interment will be private.
