Mark D. Tierney

May 11, 1953 — January 15, 2025

Rotterdam – Mark D. Tierney, 71, passed away at home on Wednesday January 15, 2025. Born in Schenectady he was the son of Alfred and Lillian (Podgurski) Tierney. After graduating from Draper High School Mark moved to San Francisco, CA and then spent time in Arizona during the mid to late 1970’s before returning to Schenectady. For many years Mark worked as a generator technician/winder at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady before retiring. Mark loved to spend time with family and friends especially the time spent with his cousins at Sacandaga Lake. An excellent saxophone player, Mark developed and received a patent on his saxophone strap and sent it to the band of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Mark was a big fan of Elvis Presley, Godfather movies and Bruce Lee which led him to get a black belt in Judo. He was a member of the Niskamont Gun Club. Mark will be remembered as being kind and generous and will be greatly missed by his neighbors on Cramer Ave.

He is survived by his two sisters Gayle Small and Lynn (Darwyn) Quay.

Nieces and nephews Luke Quay, Dustin Quay, Courtney McGuigan and Jenna Tejada.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5-7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam.

A funeral service will begin 11 am Thursday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Mark’s memory to the Animal Protective Foundation 53 maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
