Mark James Martin

Mark James Martin, 71, passed away on August 10th surrounded by his family at home, after a long fight with Multiple System Atrophy. Mark was born and raised in Feura Bush, NY.

He kept his wicked sense of humor until the very end. He owned an electrical company before he dedicated his 29-year career as a corrections officer in the Albany County Correctional Facility.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lynn, of 15 years this coming October, whom he started dating in 2005. He was fiercely proud of his loving daughters, Jamie Bannon (Steve), of Pittsfield, MA and Amanda Martin-Durbin (Robert), of Killeen, TX. He was an awesome stepdad to his stepdaughter, Michelle Burnett, of Kernersville, NC. Mark was Opa to Taryn Bannon, Darrian Durbin, Lillian Durbin, Raven Burnett and Luna Whitney. He also leaves behind his beloved Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Angel. Mark, being the younger brother, bragged that he beat his brother, Paul Martin, to the other side saying, “I win!”

There is no doubt in our minds that his beloved dog, Milo, showed him the way home. Mark was met on the other side by his parents, Leeland and Pat, his wife, Kim, along with other beloved friends and family.

Mark generously donated his brain and other organs to Mount Sinai Hospital and the Mayo Clinic in Cleveland, so that others could benefit from the knowledge of how his disease progressed. Hopefully, with this groundbreaking research, others will not have to suffer like he did with this rare disease.
