Schenectady – Marion Sorbello, age 87, passed away with family by her side on Monday, April 9th, 2018 at Ellis Hospital. Marion was born in Schenectady and was the daughter of the late John and Raffaela (Valentino) DeMatteo. A graduate of St. Joseph’s School, Marion worked as a hairdresser at Mr. James Beauty Salon on State Street for 62 years. Marion was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking for her family, knitting and crocheting. She was a people person and would often take trips to visit her friends. She also loved animals very much. Left behind to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 67 years, Salvatore “Sam” Sorbello, her sisters, Philomena "Phyllis" Derenske, Connie Janack and Ann (John) Felczak, and her brother John DeMatteo (Robin Piliere). She is also survived by her nieces, Christine (Derenske) Knutti (Ron), Sue DeMarco, Jill DeMatteo, Karen (Felczak) Burda (Robert), Linda (Felczak) Hunt (Mark), Jeanette Morello and Linda Saglimbeni and nephews, Alfred Derenske Jr. (Beverly), Steve Janack (Margo), Phil Janack, David DeMatteo, John Felczak, Michael Felczak (Lynne) and Richard Saglimbeni as well as several great nieces and nephews. Marion was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Alfred Derenske Sr. and Ralph Janack, niece, Sandra Janack Chase and nephew, John DeMatteo. A visitation will take place on Friday, April 13th from 9:45-10:45am at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany Street. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am. Inurnment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. Memorial donations in Marion’s name may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
