Marion (Koenen) Perri

August 2, 1922 — February 1, 2021

Rotterdam - Marion Koenen Perri, age 98 of Rotterdam, died peacefully on February 1, 2021. Marion was born in Auburn, NY in 1922. She graduated from Nazareth College in 1944 and later earned a Master’s degree in political science from Syracuse University and another in library science from Columbia University. Marion was employed by New York State as a research librarian until she married Salvatore Perri in 1960. While raising her children, she was an especially active volunteer in her community for many years. Marion was very involved in the Mohawk Valley Girls Scout Council, not only as a leader, but organizing a library in the District offices. She was quite active in St. Gabriel’s Parish and served in many capacities such as religious education teacher and lector at Mass among other duties. For many years, she read for RISE, a radio service that read news articles to the blind and visually impaired. She and her family also hosted Fresh Air children and foreign exchange graduate students from a variety of countries. Marion was the neighborhood guardian angel, forever helping anyone in need. She is predeceased by Sal, her husband of 41 years, and her sister Jane Yvonne Koenen. She is survived by her children; Christine Perri Adams (Milton) of Saranac Lake, Mary Jane Perri of Schenectady, and Paul Perri (Janis) of Saugerties. Her grand-children include Matthew and Jacob Adams and Gavin Perri. She is also survived by her sister, Karline Tierney of Baltimore, MD. and a niece and nephew. A Mass of Christian Burial, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be celebrated 10:30 am Thursday February 18th at St. Gabriel’s Church 3040 Hamburg St., Rotterdam. Masks must be worn and all Covid-19 precautions will be adhered to. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made in Marion’s memory to Food For The Poor 6401 Lyons Rd., Coconut Creek, FL 33073 or Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York 8 Mountain View Ave., Albany, NY 12205.
