Lawrence, Marion Lee, 75, of Altamont, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2014 after a long illness. Born on June 6, 1939 in Winston-Salem, NC, Marion was the daughter of Leonard Mason and Leora Mason (Jones). Marion graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn, NY and began work as a clerk-stenographer for New York State. Marion later worked for the Alaska Railroad in Anchorage AL, the Federal Bureau of Mines in Colonie, and retired from government employment after several years with the Internal Revenue Service in Albany. Marion will be remembered as strong, proud, and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In support of her family, no sacrifice was too great and no burden was too large to bear. She converted to Catholicism as an adult and was a longtime communicant of St. Madeline Sophie's Church. Marion enjoyed listening to opera, classical music and jazz, and until her health failed spent many summer hours tending to her landscaping projects; her home was beautiful both inside and out. Marion's husband, Frederick Lawrence, whom she married on October 21, 1962, passed away on January 15, 2008. She is survived by her daughters, Toni Melissa Lawrence of Troy and Zina Mega Lawrence and her husband, Steven A. Taylor of Speigletown; her grandchildren, Alexander, Aniz and Zian; her sister Jeanetta Broom-Collie of Brooklyn, NY and her sister-in-law, Irma Williams of Florida. Marion is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Marie Mason on January 6, 1952 and Jessie Mason-Nesbitt on December 4, 2003. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Christina Tangredi Seagroatt for her loving care and support of Marion.
