Mario (Marty) "Po" Massaroni December 9, 2015 After a courageous year-long struggle with his health, Mario A. Massaroni passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the age of 84.Affectionately loved as "Po" by his grandchildren and "Beansie" by family and friends, Marty was a loving, thoughtful, sensitive and positive, fun-loving man who genuinely appreciated the simple pleasures of life. A native of Schenectady, Marty was born on May 6, 1931 to the late Louise (Papetti) and Ignazio Massaroni.He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and retired from the General Electric Company after 38 years of service as Supervisor of Customer Service in the Turbine Division.He was also a proud member of the National Guard. Marty was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan, armchair coaching from his recliner and faithful to his teams no matter what the outcome."Po" was also the number one fan of his basketball-playing grandsons and rarely missed a youth basketball or Guilderland High School game throughout their years of playing.In his quiet free time, Marty was a dedicated reader of biographies and enjoyed watching westerns and Gunsmoke and Bonanza reruns.He loved golfing and bowling with his brothers, cousins, and lifelong friends and served as Secretary of the Amity League at Sportsman's Bowl for 27 years. Marty was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Jeanne; his beloved siblings Marylou and Americo; brother-in-law Elliot; in-laws Marie and Alvin Hollas and Albert Danzig; and his aunt Lois Weisheit. Surviving are his daughters Mardi J. Massaroni and Jo-Ann (Edward) Gejay of Guilderland and his cherished grandchildren who he considered his most treasured gifts.He truly adored "his boys" and was incredibly proud of the men they've become. Douglas and his wife Megan, and Daniel and his girlfriend, Brianna, brought him nothing but smiles and joy each and every day. Marty is also survived by his beloved sister Norma (Richard) Silaika and brother Dante (Gloria) Massaroni, sister-in-law Grace (Americo) Massaroni, and step mother-in-law Lois Danzig. "Uncle Beansie" was blessed with the love of thirty immediate nieces and nephews, as well as their spouses and children.He also leaves behind his brothers-in-law Douglas (Kelly) and Richard Danzig, sister-in law Laurie (Larry) Scully, and his aunt Lois Weisheit's children and their families. Po's family would like to especially thank his caregivers on C-6 at Ellis Hospital, Sunnyview Rehabilitation, and Guilderland Center for their compassion, patience, and delightful humor; and Doctors K. Coleman, E. Haber, and A. Ramirez and their respective staffs for such kind and supportive care. The funeral service for Marty will be held on Monday, December 14, beginning at 9:00am. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue in Rotterdam. A celebration of his life will follow at 10:00 am. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church on 806 Union Street in Schenectady.Relatives and friends are invited to visit Marty on Sunday, December 13, with calling hours from 6:00 - 8:00pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home. Interment will be at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Glenville. Donations in Marty's memory may be made to The Animal Protective Foundation of Schenectady at 53 Maple Avenue in Schenectady, 12302; or to the Guilderland High School Boy's Basketball Booster Club, c/o Regan Johnson, Athletic Director, Guilderland High School, 8 School Road, Guilderland Center, 12085.
