Marie A. Patten, 98, of Rotterdam died peacefully on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Carmel, New York, on October 22, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Zopher M. Aldrich and Orpha V. Huson.She was educated in Laurens, New York and retired from the Wilber National Bank in Oneonta, New York. Marie lived for over 60 years in Oneonta, New York where she was employed by Karmel Korn, Breeze's Dept. Store, Dr. Leon Wayman and Wilber National Bank. She was also a member of the VFW Auxillary, and served as a member of the Civil Defense. Upon moving to Rotterdam, NY, Marie became a member of the Rotterdam United Methodist Church and the Fisher Home Bureau. She could be found knitting caps for babies in the local hospitals, making baby quilts for Rotterdam UMC and sewing bibs for local nursing homes. She was predeceased by her husband Harold A. Patten, her daughter and son in law; Lucinda and Charles Redman, son in law; Vincent Ballo, three brothers and a sister. Marie is survived by two daughters; Sylvia A. Ballo of Rotterdam, NY and Maxine K. Getty (David) of Scotia, NY; five grandchildren; Jo-Ann (Joseph) Gardella of New Hamshire, John (Jeanne) Ballo of Rotterdam, Ronald (Cindy) Ballo of Rotterdam, Robert (Laurie) Ballo of Ballston Lake and Scott Redmon of Hamburg, NY, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours which will be held Friday evening from 4 to 7 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave.Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 7 pm. Marie will be buried in the spring in Davenport, New York. The family would like to thank the staff at Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center, Edison Wing, for the care and support they gave during Marie's time there. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Marie's name be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123, the Rotterdam United Methodist Church, 1915 Helderberg Ave. Schenectady, NY 12306, or to Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center, 600 McClellan St. Schenectady, 12304.
