Maria Semento

Maria Anna Rosa Semento (Alotta), 59, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, at home surrounded by family.

She was born on April 25, 1966, in Belleville, New Jersey, to Mary Ann Alotta (Altamura) and Andrea J. Alotta. Maria earned two associate degrees from the State University of New York and worked for the New York State Department of Health for 18 years.

Maria was a free spirit who lived life on her own terms and was truly the life of the party. She was a skilled cook who loved trying new recipes, an avid reader, and a lover of music. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings and was always happiest bringing people together. Above all, she was a devoted mother and grandmother. Maria was smart, funny, witty, and incredibly kind, always willing to do anything for those she loved. She lived a full and joyful life. She especially loved trips to Sacandaga Lake, but more than anything, she cherished being home with her family.

Maria is survived by her children, Angelia Roberts (Cody), Gabriella Semento (Nicholas), and Gina Semento (Nelson); her mother, Mary Ann Alotta; her brothers, Filippo Alotta (Jennifer) and Antonio Alotta (Deborah); her grandchildren, Milena and Elijah; and her nieces and nephews, Julia, Isabella, Anthony, and Sofia. She was predeceased by her father, Andrea J. Alotta, and her brother, Andrea Alotta (Kimberly).

Calling Hours will be held at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam Monday April 27th 4pm-7pm. A private funeral service will follow.
