Schenectady - Maria Mancino Carusone passed into the arms of the Lord to join her beloved husband Matteo Carusone, with grace and courage, with her loving children at her side on Friday May 17, 2013 at the Teresian House in Albany. Maria was the daughter of Giacomo and Angelamaria Mancino. She is survived by her beloved children, Angelina Scafidi (Dominick), Alexander Carusone (Maria) and Madeline Pahl (Michael), whose love sustained her throughout her challenging journey. She is Nana to Lisa Rakoczy (Luke), Christine Carusone, Matthew Carusone, Anthony Calandra and David Calandra. She is great Nana to Alexandra and Samuel Carusone and Jaina and Jason Rakoczy. Maria is also survived by many loving and caring nieces, nephews and friends. She was the last living sibling of 11 brothers and sisters. Born in Pietramelara, Italy in 1918, Maria and Matteo immigrated to the United States with their young children who all became proud American citizens. Maria dedicated herself to creating a loving and supportive home for her husband and children, enjoying every aspect of being a wife, mother and grandmother. Maria loved gardening, cooking for family and friends, sewing and crocheting. She enjoyed sitting in her flower garden reading her prayer books and visiting with friends. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel women's society. The family wishes to acknowledge the loving and compassionate care provided by the staff of the Teresian House, memory care unit east wing, Carmel Gardens and special thanks to her caregiver, Sonya. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Maria's memory to the Teresian House Memorial Fund, 200 Washington Ave., Ext., Albany, NY 12205. Funeral services will begin 8:15 a.m. Tuesday from DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam followed by a 9a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Pleasant St. where Father Robert Hohenstein will honor Maria's life. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also visit with Maria' family on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
