Maria A. Butkiewicz, 60, of Niskayuna, passed away after a courageous battle, on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Utica, with her family and friends at her bedside. Maria was born in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Walter and Jeanne Ciccone Polanski. She grew up in Mont Pleasant. In her teenage years, Maria worked at Mama’s Pizza Oven, which was owned by her parents, and later was a self employed private duty nurse for many years. She was an avid BINGO player at the BINGO Palace on State St. and also enjoyed bowling, but the loves of her life were her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Maria was also predeceased by her brother, John Polanski. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Edward M. Butkiewicz, three children; Edward M. Butkiewicz Jr. of Schenectady, Tanya Mackley of Schenectady and Michael Butkiewicz, also of Schenectady, two sisters; Sonia Polanski of Rotterdam and Tammy Maxon of Rotterdam, her beloved grandchildren; Jeremiah Mackley and Ariana Mackley, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Saturday morning from 8:15 to 10:15 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. followed at 11 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
