Marguerite E. "Maggie" Smith (Plaza)

Schenectady -It is with deep sorrow to announce the passing of Maggie, 90, of Schenectady, NY. Marguerite went to the arms of the Lord on April 19, 2023 with the comfort of her family beside her.

Born on Staten Island, NY December 12, 1932. Maggie relocated to Catskill, NY as a young lady, where she would raise her family. Maggie was an accomplished chef and worked at many hotels and resorts throughout Windham, Hunter, and various Greene County establishments before realizing a dream of owning her own restaurant in Haines Falls.

Maggie was predeceased by her mother, Margaret Schaefer Meurer, father Edward John Meurer, husband, Kelly B. Smith and son Ricardo E. Plaza. She is survived by her daughters Darlene M. Schnur, Nancy R. Legasse (Jim), Donna P. Smith (Jamie), son Edward J. Plaza (Lisa), grandchildren Darrell (Allison), Amanda, Maggie (Andrew), Kate (Tim), Alysia, Deanna (Dave), Cory, great grandchildren Noah, Zoe, Ethan, Xavier, Amelia, Vivienne, Lilly, Kaydanse, and Tessa.

The family wishes to thank and remember her magnificent community of friends at Kingsway where she adored that extended family.

You may now rest in peace, our dear Mother. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 commencing at 12 noon at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam with The Rev. John Califano, officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11 am until 12 noon, prior to the service at the funeral home. Procession will follow to Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
