Marguerite H (Wathier) Marsh

Guilderland - Marguerite H. Marsh passed peacefully at home October 23 with her loving family at her side. Marguerite was born October 26, 1928 in Oneonta, NY. She was the daughter of Andre’ and Marcelle Wathier. She attended St. Mary’s school and Oneonta High School. She graduated from the College of St. Rose School of Nursing in 1948 and married James P. Marsh on June 17, 1950. Marguerite and Jim moved to Rotterdam in 1957, where Marguerite worked as a substitute school nurse in the Mohonasen School District; she also worked at the former Silver Haven Nursing Home and more recently at Oral Surgery Associates of Schenectady. Marguerite loved the Lord and was an active and cherished member of St. Paul the Apostle Church. She served for several years in the Legion of Mary, the RCIA program, Eucharistic minister and on the Bereavement Committee. She was one of the first Board members of ABBA House of Prayer in Albany. In 1974, Marguerite began her involvement in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, serving as a core member and Praise Music Minister in the Spirit of Life Prayer Group until her death. She always felt so so blessed and grateful for the love and support of her faith community. Marguerite was a former Board member of POMC , a pivotal member of NYADP and Family and Friends of Homicide Victims, inspiring so many who endured experiences with violence. Marguerite served on the Bishop’s Restorative Justice Commission. She participated in Residents Encounter Christ weekends. Marguerite loved to travel and play cards. She delighted in her granddaughters and great-granddaughters. Marguerite was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jim in 1978, daughter Cathy in 1998, grandson Memrick Verzulli and her brother Jack Wathier and his wife Margaret. She is survived by her children, Robert Marsh (Rachel) and Marie Verzulli (Rick); her granddaughters, April Geraldsen (Tom), Christy Thimineur (Brad), Theresa Schroeder (Justin), Shanice Ordon (Amanda); her great-granddaughters, Stephanie and Alexandra Geraldsen, Kaylie Thimineur and Olivia Shroeder: her brother-in-law Joe Marsh; her nieces, Janet Havich (Dick), Kathy Shepard (Jim), Sharon Shepard (Joe), and Jackie Higgins; her godsons, David Fortune and Helmet Deeg; her “ministers” Dick and Janet Fortune. Marguerite is also survived by many dear friends. Calling hours will be held Monday from 5-7pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 9:15 am Tuesday at the funeral home followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Paul the Apostle Church 2733 Albany St., Schenectady, NY 12304. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Church or the charity of your choice.
