Schenectady - Margaret Stiles Shaver went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 18, 2016. Peg was born in Wilton, NY to Bertha and Elton Stiles on March 29, 1924. Her home at that time was a farm at the current location of the Wishing Well Restaurant. After she graduated from Schuylerville High School in 1943. She set off to start her life by moving to Schenectady where she took a job with General Electric. Peg married George E. Shaver on July 5, 1953. They took their honeymoon trip to Cape Cod and returned there each summer introducing their children to camping at Nickerson State Park and vacations at the beach. They moved to Glenville, NY and raised their family of four boys. When asked what she did to bring up such fine men she always answered “ You just have to love them no matter what… and pray!” She was an encourager of dreams. Peg and George were founding members of East Glenville Community Church. She was a longtime Deaconess at the church. Peg planned and cooked countless meals both for church programs and when families were in need. At family gatherings she cooked and served delicious meals with quiet grace. She was an excellent pie baker, best known for her apple pie. While the boys were growing up she used her skills in food preparation. She supervised the cafeteria at Glenhaven School and then at Charlton Heights for many years. Peg always had a great love for animals, Cindy was the family dog and in later years a cat named Bugsy. In retirement, Peg and George travelled. Peg had a keen eye for antiques and frequently shopped for unique items. She moved to the Heritage Home for Women at age 90. She adapted well and learned to reach out and care for others in a new way. God’s gift to her, she found purpose and satisfaction in helping and encouraging others. Peg was predeceased by her beloved husband George in 2011. She is survived by her four children: Jeffrey (Elsa) Shaver, Mark ( Margaret ) Shaver, Scott ( Christia ) Shaver, James ( Mary) Shaver, grandchildren Dana ( Meghan) Shaver, Lee Shaver, Laura Shaver, Jennifer ( Jonathan) Williams, Bryan Shaver, Brittney Shaver, Joshua Shaver, Alexandra Shaver, Courtney Shaver, Cameron Shaver and three great- grandchildren. Wake and burial will be private. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service in celebration of Peg’s life on Wednesday, December 28th at 2pm at East Glenville Community Church 335 Saratoga Road, Glenville NY 12302.
