Rotterdam – Margaret Santa Pivacek, 81, passed away on Saturday, April 1st at Ellis Hospital. Born in Schenectady, Margaret was the daughter of the late Samuel and Marianne Clement. Margaret attended her beloved Van Corlaer School for her early education, graduated from Mont Pleasant High School, and attended the University of Alabama before she transferred to SUNY Plattsburgh, where she was an active member of the Clio Sorority, graduating with a degree in early education. In her early adult life, Margaret was employed as a teacher for the City of Troy School District. Once she became a mother, she devoted her attention to the full-time care of her 5 children and her loving husband, where they received a lifetime of unconditional love and adoration from her. Margaret was also regarded as a “second mom” to many, always offering a welcoming home filled with continuous laughter, motherly advice, and the kindest support. Margaret had a lifelong passion for antiques and vintage collectibles. She especially admired the artistry and craftsmanship of vintage costume jewelry, artwork, architecture, and fine textiles. She had an engaging personality; well-versed on sports, literature, the arts, current events, and her faith, with an unwavering compassion for animals. She was a beautifully charming and remarkable woman who was admired by all and she will be truly missed. She is predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 56 years, Lawrence S. Pivacek, as well as her beloved brother, Anthony Clement. Margaret leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Larry (Cindy) Pivacek, Christian (Maureen) Pivacek, Andrew Pivacek, Tristan (John) McCann, and Meg (Gary) Signor; her sisters, Ann Cuomo (Raymond) and Marie Gardner (late Leslie); 11 cherished grandchildren, and wonderful nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6th from 6-8pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Friday morning a prayer service will begin promptly at 10:15am at the funeral home and will be followed by a Mass of Christian burial that will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union St., at 11am. Interment will be in St. Cyril and Method Cemetery in Rotterdam. Contributions in Margaret’s name can be made to the Schenectady County SPCA, PO Box 9516, Niskayuna, NY 12309.
