Guilderland, NY — Margaret Anna Ufer Lemme, affectionately known to all as "Peggy," passed away peacefully on Saturday July 4th at the age of 96.
Born on June 3, 1930, in New York City, Peggy grew up in the vibrant neighborhoods of the Bronx. At the age of 16, she moved to the Albany area to live with her sister Eola, which would become the backdrop for a beautifully lived life centered around community and family. Peggy was a dedicated professional who spent many years working at Council 82, where she had many friends and her hard work and reliability were deeply valued.
Beyond her professional life, Peggy was a woman of vibrant passions. She was a lifetime, die-hard fan of her beloved New York Yankees and New York Knicks, rarely missing a game on TV and cheering them on through generations of legendary seasons.
Above all else, Peggy was fiercely dedicated to her family. She was the heart and anchor of her home, famously known for hosting large, lively extended family dinners on every holiday. Her kitchen was always filled with warmth, incredible food, laughter, and an open door for everyone she loved. Her dogs, over the years, ZuZu, Marty, Mason, and Abby all held a special place in her heart.
Peggy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rocco Lemme, her brother Earl, and her sisters Stella and Eola.
Her legacy of love, generosity, and family tradition lives on through her children: her daughter, Cynthia Filippone (Nick), and her sons Peter Lemme (Mary Ellen) and Stephen Lemme (Lisa). She also leaves behind a proud and growing lineage of many grandchildren, step grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life.
The family would also like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and Mountain Valley Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
Calling hours will be held on Monday July 13th from 9am to 11am at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Ave., Albany, NY 12203. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11am, followed by interment in St. Agnes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Peggy’s name to Disabled American Veterans. Arrangements by DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, Guilderland. Condolences can be posted at demarcostonefuneralhome.com.
