Marcia R (Liebundguth) Popolizio

Plainfield, IL - Marcia R. Liebundguth Popolizio, age 78, a resident of Plainfield, IL, formerly of Naperville, IL, passed away on December 23, 2020 in Oswego, IL. She was born December 19, 1942 in Schenectady, NY to the late Fred and Ruth Liebundguth. She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Vincent Popolizio, Jr.; Her devoted daughter, Kristin (Stephen) Emerson; and her granddaughters, Alexa and Mia Emerson. Marcia grew up in Schenectady, New York and graduated valedictorian from Colonie Central High School. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching from SUNY at Albany. After graduation, Marcia taught middle school English in Burnt Hills/Ballston Lake until she married in 1967 and moved to Illinois. From 1975 until her retirement in 2002, Marcia taught high school English and Special Education for West Aurora School District 129. Marcia loved to sing and dance. She was very involved in choir throughout her life especially after retirement. She sang in the church choir at St. Elizabeth Seaton in Naperville for almost 20 years. She was also very active in church life as a eucharistic minister, cantor, and Sunday school teacher. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who spoke about the importance of being kind and generous to all who would listen. The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff from Home Instead Senior Care, Bickford of Oswego, Angels Grace Hospice and Rush Copley Hospital who cared for Marcia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, Angels Grace Hospice, 440 Quadrangle Dr., Suite G, Bolingbrook, IL 60440 or charity of Donor’s Choice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 am Tuesday August 3rd at St. Luke’s Church 1241 State St., Schenectady, NY 12304. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY.
