M. Josephine (Jo)Aker Schenectady- Josephine Aker, age 93, of Schenectady, entered into rest on August 27, 2014. Born in Seward and educated in Schoharie County, she was the daughter of Herschel T. Rich and Lillian Brown Rich. Married to Walter W. Aker for 70 years, she was a supporter of nature and conservation efforts, the education of Native Americans, and the humane treatment of animals. She loved reading, writing nature poetry, playing the piano, sewing, knitting, and especially gardening. She was a member of the Cobblestone Reformed Church where she enjoyed worshipping with her church family and attending the social hour after services. Jo was a member of the West Hill Garden Club, the Thursday Outings Club, and in more recent years, a knitting club. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents and siblings. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Marie Lussi (John), Julie Dombroski (John), five grandchildren, John Lussi (Zoe), Jill Lussi, Jana Altieri (Michael), Jane Dauster (Chris) and Raymond Dombroski; nine great-grandchildren, Kristin, Joshua and Zachary Lussi, Emma and Kemp Dauster, and Logan, Averianna, Ethan and Giavanna Altieri; sister-in-law, Shirley Rich, many nieces and nephews. A private graveside service was held at Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam with the Rev. John Compton officiating.
