Edgewater, FL – Lucy Jane Broome, 97, formerly of Schenectady, passed away on Tuesday, January 24th, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Florida. Born in Scotia, Lucy was the youngest of 9 children born to her parents, the late Charles and Agnes (Middleton) Keefer. Lucy worked as a key punch operator for the New York State Department of Finance for many years. While in the area, Lucy volunteered at the Rotterdam Boy’s Club. She was a founding member of the District 2 Fire Department Auxilliary in Rotterdam. In Edgewater, Lucy belonged to 1st Presbyterian Church in New Smyrna. She also volunteered at the Duvell Home, a home for adults with special needs. Besides her parents, Lucy was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Herbert H. Broome in 1999. Lucy leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Lucy Koelker (John) of Schenectady, Richard Broome (Marilyn) of Pilot Knob, Susan Terry (David) of Schenectady and Herbert Broome (Ellen) of Slingerlands, as well as10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 1st from 6pm to 8pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral services will begin on Thursday morning at 11am at the funeral home. Interment will be in Schenectady Memorial Park in Rotterdam.
