Louis G. De Marzio

Niskayuna - Louis (Lou) G. De Marzio, 100, passed away peacefully at his home on July 27, 2026 and is now reunited with his wife Helen of 67 years who was the love of his life.

He was born on July 8, 1926 in Schenectady, NY to Matilda (Della Villa) De Marzio and Alexander De Marzio. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1944, then a few month later entered the US Navy, where he served as an Apprentice Seaman until his Honorable Discharge in June 1945.

Lou worked for the US Postal Service for over 40 years, forming lifetime friendships with many of his coworkers. He was an avid golfer and was a proud member of the US Postal Service golf league for over 60 years.

After retirement, he continued working part time at the Mohawk Golf Club Pro Shop and De Marco - Stone Funeral Home. He genuinely enjoyed spending time at both places and created so many lasting friendships.

Lou was a sports enthusiast from a very early age, playing baseball, basketball, golf and bowling. He continued to share his knowledge and love for the game with his sons and coached many youth teams over the years. He was well known for his passion and exceptional golf skills, playing right up until the age of 94.

Lou had a smile that would light up a room. He was quite the entertainer, and could always make you laugh with his crazy antics and jokes. He will always be remembered for his famous finger snapping, confusing “double talk” conversations and spot on impersonations of comedians. The stories are endless, and so are the memories he left with all that knew him.

Lou was the devoted father to Lou Ann (Dick) Aceto, Laureen (Bruce) Skala, Mark DeMarzio, and Daughter in law Grace De Marzio.

He was adored by his grandchildren, Nicole ( Joe) Nicholas, Kristen Mancini, Luke ( Natalie) Skala, Andre Skala (Jillian Yardley), Alex, Tony, Nick, Mark and David De Marzio and Louis (Jen) De Marzio. Loving “Papa Lou” to his great grandchildren Joseph and Gisella Nicholas and Stephen Mancini.

Lou is also survived by his sister Marlene Mangino and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his loving son Peter, sister, Virginia Romleski, sister in law, Irene Willyoung, and brother in laws, Cyril Romleski and Louis Mangino.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Community Hospice ( Kara, Deb, Laura and Wes), The Eddy VNA (Carey and Tammy) and his caregivers Kayla and Heidi for their unwavering support to the family during the last few years.

Visitation will be held Monday August 10, 2026 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha,1803 Union St. Schenectady from 9:30 - 11 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will immediately follow after mass at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
