ROTTERDAM - Livia Perretta of Rotterdam passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, with her loving daughter and son in law holding her hand. She was 91. She was certainly a fighter who battled Dementia/Alzheimer’s for 21 years.
Livia was born in Limatola, Italy on October 14, 1933 to Frank and Maria Marotta. She married the love of her life, Antonio, on April 14, 1958. In 1966 she moved to Rotterdam with her husband and son. She was very proud to become a naturalized citizen soon after. She was happy to be able to sponsor other family members that emigrated from Italy to pursue the American dream. Livia worked as a talented seamstress until the birth of her daughter. She was a wonderful stay at home mom and homemaker. Her house was always full of love and laughter and lots of delicious food. She was an excellent cook, baker and an avid gardener. No one left her house hungry or without vegetables or flowers from her gardens. Along with her husband, Tony, they loved to make and share their homemade wine and specialties with family and friends. Her family and friends were extremely important to her as many friends became family.
Livia will always be remembered as a strong woman with a kind and generous soul. Her faith was at the center of her life as she loved to attend daily mass, cook and bake for the Festa for many years and could often be heard around her house singing hymns. She was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace.
Her greatest joy was becoming a grandmother to Gianna and Gabriella. The sparkle in her eyes and the smile on her face was always present when she spoke of them or was with them.
Livia is predeceased by her husband Antonio, her parents, Frank and Maria Marotta, brothers: Giuseppe of Italy, Antonio and Dominick, her sister Ida of California.
Livia is survived by her son, Mario of Arizona, daughter Maria (John) Frisone; beloved granddaughters Gianna Livia and Gabriella Antonia Frisone; brother Angelo (Sylvana) Marotta; sisters Assunta (Giuseppe deceased) Marotta; Emilia (Angelo) Mastroianni all of Rotterdam; sister Maria (Antonio deceased) of Italy; brother Louis (Carol) Marotta of Arizona; sister in law Luisa of Italy; brother in law Ralph of California; sister in law Flora; many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her in-laws and good friends Pat and Ida Frisone.
The family would like to thank Teresian House for the care they provided over the past 11 years in Carmel Gardens and more recently the second floor. Livia was a well known resident and loved by all. There are too many wonderful staff members to thank but please know you all hold a special place in our hearts.
