Lillian Catherine Lemmo

March 27, 1925 — December 15, 2021

Rotterdam – Lillian Catherine Lemmo, 96, passed into eternal life peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021 with her children by her side. Lillian was born in Schenectady to her parents, the late Wladyslav and Valeria Laniewski. She attended Mont Pleasant High School and then went to work for GE during World War II. She later worked at the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance for 15 years. Lillian was every bit a lady, always dressed impeccably, and conducted herself with dignity and class at all times. She enjoyed the finer things in life: dining out, boutique shopping, and travel, as well as the simple things: a good laugh shared with a friend or relative, a glass of wine, the companionship of her family pets. Most of all, she enjoyed being surrounded by people she loved. She thoroughly enjoyed the holidays and never missed a family gathering for any occasion. Lillian had a genuine interest in everyone, loved to laugh, and prided herself on staying active and living every day to the fullest. Lillian was raised in the Catholic faith, which remained strong though her entire life. She prayed every day, cherished her rosaries, and enjoyed attending Mass, both in person and virtually. Lillian leaves behind her daughter and best friend, Lisa Jaimes; her devoted son, Mark Lemmo (Portia Bertrand); her beloved sister, Bette Franklin; her granddaughter, Danielle Murphy, and her grandpets, Harley and Ashley, whom she adored, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, John Laniewski, Harriet Rodwell and Jane Dreves. A mass will be held in honor of Lillian on Monday at 10:30am at St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 3040 Hamburg Street in Rotterdam. Masks will be required while at church. Lillian will be laid to rest at St. Adalbert’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
