Schenectady- Lane Joseph Miller, 83, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday December 25, 2012. Lane was born September 2, 1929 in Williamstown, PA, to Louis and Lida (Cole) Miller. After graduating from high school in 1948, he enlisted in the Air Forceandwas honorably discharged in 1952. He later attended technical schools in New Hampshire and Washington D.C. Lane moved to the Schenectady area in 1954 and began his career with the New York Telephone Co, retiring in 1988. He was an avid hiker and camper and especially loved the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Lane was a dog lover and had many dogs over the years. Lane was the brother of Laura (Edwin) Underkoffler of Schenectady, N.Y., Lois Welsh of Williamstown, PA., Lawrence (Marilyn) Miller of Lykens, PA.; uncle to Susan (Richard) Schaffer of Esperance, N.Y. Michael (Eileen) Underkoffler of Raleigh, N.C., JoAnn(Roger) Ulsh, Joseph (Patricia) Welsh,John (Cindy) Welsh; all of PA, Francis (Cathleen) Welsh of TN., Christopher (Tansy) Welsh of PA., Gordon (Marie) Champion of NH, Laurie (Tom) Healy of TX., Wendy (Ronald) Klukowski of FL., Jeff (Laura) Miller, Patricia (Dennis) Smeltz; all of PA.Also survived by 28 great nieces and nephews, numerous great- great nieces and nephews and cousins.He is predeceased by his parents, sister and brother -in-law Lorraine and Fred Champion, brother -in-law Joseph Welsh and nephew James Welsh. There will be no calling hours. However, family and friends are invited to an 11am Memorial Service on Saturday, January 19 at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to an animal shelter or charity of one's choice.
