Rotterdam – Kent T. Solomon, 86, passed away Thursday March 28, 2024 surrounded by the love of his family. Kent was born in Teaneck, NJ to Thomas and Frances (Fitzsimmons) Solomon. Kent’s desire to serve his community led to his enlistment in the United States Navy from 1956-1960. His commitment to service continued as he went on to join the Fleet Marines and the Army reserves. In 1966 Kent joined the Schenectady Police Department where he diligently met his duty for 21 years. He was a member of the Ancient order of the Hibernians, Knights of Columbus, and the Schenectady Retired Police Officers. Kent was especially proud of his time serving with the honor guard at Saratoga National Cemetery and working as a volunteer firefighter. In his retirement Kent’s love for his friends and community led him to volunteer work. He dedicated his time to the City Mission in whatever capacity that was asked of him including serving on the board and working rapid response during hurricane Katrina.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sandra (DiMarco) Solomon, his brother Thomas Solomon, three children Sean (Dina) Solomon, Lori Solomon & Brian Solomon, five grandchildren Lauren, Leah, Liam, Joshua, and Justin and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Thursday from 9 -11:30 am at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam with a service to immediately follow.
Kent will be buried with military honors at Saratoga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the City Mission of Schenectady.
