Kenneth E. Hallenbeck

May 11, 1935 — April 21, 2023

Slingerlands – Kenneth E. Hallenbeck, devoted family man, passed away on Friday, April 21st, 2023 at the age of 87.

Ken was born in Rotterdam to his parents, the late Stanley D. Hallenbeck and Marie (Millet) Hallenbeck.

He honorably served in the United States Army during the 1950’s.

A tile setter by trade, Ken worked for several companies locally, including The Tile Man in Albany where he retired from in 1998.

He was a talented musician since childhood. Ken played in many groups throughout the area, most recently in The Tri-County Banjo Band & The Nashville Sounds. He was a well-known round and square dance caller, lending his guitar and vocal skills around the Capital region.

Ken enjoyed all things outdoors. Whether hunting and fishing or waterskiing and camping, if Ken was outside or spending time with his family, he was happy.

Ken leaves behind his devoted wife of 65 years, Olive (Wright) Hallenbeck; his children, Mark Hallenbeck, Everett Hallenbeck (Georgia), Veronica “Ronnie” Guerrette (Joseph), Wayne Hallenbeck (Joan), Jennifer Nicoletta (Gavin) and Esther LaBelle (Kenneth). He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Lawrence Wolcott; sister-in-law, Carol Hallenbeck as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Stanley and Marie, Ken was predeceased by his siblings, Carolyn Wolcott and Donald Hallenbeck and one grandchild, Everett Hallenbeck.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, April 28th from 12pm-1pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Tpke., Guilderland. A service honoring Ken’s life will begin at 1pm. Burial with military honors will follow at Esperance Cemetery.

Donations in Ken’s name may be made to the New Salem Volunteer Fire Department, 694 New Salem Rd., Voorheesville, NY 12186 or to a volunteer fire department of one’s choice.

Ken’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the Albany County Sheriffs for their assistance and support during the past year.
