ROTTERDAM - Julius Boreali died on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 of congestive heart failure at Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Julius was born in Howes Cave, New York December 15, 1922 to Fernando and Livia Boreali. After graduating from Cobleskill High School, he joined the US Coast Guard, and fought during WWII. He was part numerous combat operations during the War, but his most memorable was at Omaha Beach on D-day. Recalling those that died that day could move him to tears. After the War he married his sweat heart, Antonette Abbato. They made their home in Schenectady and raised three children. Julius began his work career at the American Locomotives Works in Schenectady. Subsequent jobs included Austin Distributers, a Dutch Masters Distributor and finally for the State of New York Agricultural Department. During much of his working life he worked a weekend second job at his brother’s restaurant “Boreali’s” in Howes Cave NY. Julius was an outdoorsman, who fished and hunted well into his 80’s. He had many friends who enjoyed the same activities and had many stories of his friends and outdoor adventures. Julius also engaged in family life. Highlights included weekly summer picnics and holidays with his wife’s wonderful extended family. Julius and Ann together enjoyed their card clubs, their nights out to the movies, and later in life travelling to all parts of the country for LST Association Reunions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anntonette, his daughter Gail Lewis, and by his brothers Arthur, Pat, and Fred. He outlived most of his friends and many of his family.
He is survived by two children Fred Boreali and Judy (Charles) Sogoian, and by grandchildren Matthew Lewis, Bradly (Heather) Lewis, Jayme (Robert) Gottschall, Brandon (Laura) Sogoian and great grandchildren, Adler, Julius, Gianna, Cruz, Cormac and Olivia.
The family would like to especially thank his wonderful Eddy Nurse, Carey, his VA Physician Dr. Markessinis, and all those good hearted folks who helped Julius live independently in the community during the last 10 years of his life.
