Julio L Aliwalas M.D. 86, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday October 14, 2025 at the St. Peter’s Hospital Hospice Care Unit surrounded by his beloved family.
He was born on October 10, 1939 in Pampanga, Philippines to Dr. Jose Aliwalas & Victoria Lansangan. His siblings are Aurora Aliwalas, Leoncia Dizon, Constancia Aliwalas, Patria Aliwalas, Mario & Jose Aliwalas Jr. Julio received his Medical Degree from the University of the East RM Memorial Medical Center in 1965 along with his classmate & wife, Emma. After an Internship & Externship at St. Luke’s Hospital in Quezon City, Philippines, they immigrated to Albany NY in June 1966 when they were offered internship at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany NY. He then proceeded with Residency in Internal Medicine followed by Fellowship in Nephrology at the Albany Medical Center & the Albany VA Medical Center.
He was highly regarded by his colleagues and grateful patients, for his expertise and his special & unique way of caring for his patients. He was in private practice in Internal Medicine and Consultant in Nephrology with extensive involvement in Hemodialysis in the Capital District as well as Attending Physician for many years, serving the elderly poor, with The Little Sisters of the Poor in Latham, NY until his retirement.
He was a devoted & beloved husband to his wife of 61 years, Emma, to their four sons – Francisco, Julio, Ricardo & Edward. He relished being Father in Law to Helen Bolivar Aliwalas and Ritsuko Yamaguchi Aliwalas. He was fond of his sister Leoncia Dizon & and many nieces & nephews in the Philippines. He found much joy in being Grandfather to Jonathan, Lauryn & Rachel Aliwalas and Taiga Yamaguchi Aliwalas & uncle to Josefina Aliwalas.
He enjoyed playing the violin, basketball & tennis, spending time with family & friends and barbecuing in the summer time. A parishioner of St. Madeleine Sophie Church. He will be missed immensely by his beloved family, friends & colleagues and will remain in our grateful hearts forever.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday October 21st from 10am to 12pm at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carmen Rd, Schenectady, NY 12303. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12pm. He will then be privately cremated. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorials be directed to Christ Child Society of St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Rd., Schenectady NY are welcome.
