Josephine M (Suraci) Zaremba

December 18, 1927 — February 2, 2019

Rotterdam – Josephine M. Zaremba, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love at the Teresian House on Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 after a short illness. Josephine was born in Schenectady to her parents, the late Giuseppe and Rose (Miceli) Suraci. A lifelong area resident, Josephine was a graduate of Draper High School. She worked for the General Electric Company for several years. She retired as a teacher’s aide from the Schenectady City School District after 18 years of service. She was a member of the Schonowe Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Gabriele D’Annunzio Sons of Italy Lodge #321. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, cooking and baking. Josephine’s most cherished moments were those times spent with family. Besides her parents, Josephine is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Victor F. Zaremba. She is survived by her loving children, Victoria Ragnoni (Daniel) and JoAnn Taylor (Steven) and her beloved grandsons, Trevor and Jason Taylor. She also leaves behind her sisters, Frances White and Candida Suraci and two nephews, Francis Pugliese (Helen) and Joseph Pugliese (Claire). Calling hours will be held on Thursday evening from 5-7pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue in Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin on Friday at 9:15am at the funeral home and will be followed by a funeral mass at 10am at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 210 Princetown Road, Rotterdam. Interment will be at St. Cyril and Method Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Josephine’s name may be made to the Schonowe Fire Company or Schonowe Ladies Auxiliary, 112 Gordon Rd., Schenectady, NY 12306, or to Our Lady Queen of Peace at the address above, or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Drs. Louis Ianniello and John Nolan for their years of care and compassion given to our mother. We would also like to thank the staff at the Teresian House for their care and kindness over the past few months.
