Josephine Piccirillo

July 16, 1926 — March 30, 2025

Josephine Piccirillo, born on July 16, 1926, in the province of Messina, Italy, to Salvatore and Maria Munafo, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday March 30, 2025. At just six months old, Josephine immigrated with her parents to the Mount Pleasant area of Schenectady, where she would go on to become a proud U.S. citizen. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and, during World War II, worked in the payroll department for the aeronautics division of General Electric. Josephine devoted 20 years of service to GE before retiring, then continued to work at Munafo Imports and Grocery, the family business on Altamont Avenue, until her mid-70s.

Josephine was predeceased by her parents, her sister Angelina, her brother Joseph, and her beloved husband of 58 years, Angelo.

She is survived by her three children: daughters Maria Balfour (David) and Elisa Piccirillo-Struys (Michael), and son Nicholas Piccirillo (Michele). Her cherished grandchildren include Maria Fiumano (Andrew), Juliana Struys, Angelo Piccirillo, and Dominic Piccirillo. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends, including June Stone, Carmen Ranalli, Annie Friderici and Nancy Allende.

Josephine's legacy will live on through her selflessness, generosity, and loving nature. She had a special way of making everyone feel welcome at her table. Whether cooking, baking, or simply feeding her loved ones, bringing joy to others was what truly filled her heart. Her unwavering love for her family was immeasurable, and there was never a greater bond than that of a mother for her children. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
