Josephine F Mageean

d. March 22, 2016

On Tuesday, March 22, 2016, Josephine F. Mageean, 84, daughter of Anna Pisano Lombardi and Albino Lombardi, in the presence of her daughter, died of a very long and debilitating illness. With the passing of her beloved husband of 46 years John, just two short months ago, she peacefully passed on to join him. They were devoted to each other, renewing their vows and commitment in 1998. A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School in 1950, Josephine then began working for the Telephone Company for several years. She belonged to the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and the Democratic Club. Her involvement with the Farm Bureau of Schenectady County Home Extension led to her winning an award for excellence. Afterward, she became a teller at the Mohawk National Bank. She later became Deputy Receiver of Taxes for Rotterdam for many years. She was President of the Lioness Club and was a volunteer driver for the blind with the Mohawk Club and Lions Hearing Society. She was actively involved with the Rotterdam Bicentennial Committee in 1976 and with the Rotterdam Boys Club Auxiliary. Later she worked as a purchasing agent for OTB. Formerly of Rotterdam and later of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, for 23 years where she and John both enjoyed retirement, Josephine became active in the Auxiliary of Lee County Memorial Hospital where she volunteered in various capacities. She was President of the Woman's Society of Bayside Estates and volunteered in the Pink Bizarre through Lee County. With the onset of her illness they returned to New York in 2006. Josephine is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann Collins Laviano of Clifton Park and Janice LaVare of Florida, son, Patrick O'Brien of Schenectady, grandsons, Keith F. Collins, Thomas O'Brien, John H. Theverage, Joshua and Nicholas LaVare and several great grandchildren, her sister, Frances Yankowski as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Josephine will be remembered for her passion for cooking, love oflife and travel, and she did it all her way. A private service was held on Monday, March 28, 2016 at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home. Burial was immediately following at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery at the family plot. Contributions would be appreciated, made in Josephine's name to the Alzheimer's Association. The reality of this disease is that there is no remission, there is no stopping it, there is no slowing it down, there is no cure for it and there are no survivors.
