Joseph L Zanta

Guilderland - Joseph L. Zanta, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 9, 2014. Born in Pittston, PA., he was the son of Angelo and Helen Alfano Zanta. Joe graduated from the former Mt. Pleasant High School then went on to serve our country in the United States Navy from 1952-1956.For 45 years, Joe and his wife Rose Marie, owned and operated the Altamont Beauty Shoppe in Schenectady.They worked together side by side every day and enjoyed a marriage filled with joy and laughter.Joe will be remembered as a hard-working, honest man who was always the life of the party.He loved his wife and children with his whole heart. He had tremendous faith in God.His loving wife of 49 years, Rose Marie, passed away in 2006.He is survived by his four children; Lisa (Steve) Baker, Joe (Kathie) Zanta, Christine (Brian) Carr and Michele Zanta. His five grandchildren; Kevin, Patrick & Kyle Sheehan and Madison & Max Balke. Four siblings; Eleanor Costanzo, Raymond (Isabelle) Zanta, Helen (Roc) Visconti and Angelo (Joann) Zanta. Joe is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, He was predeceased by his sister, Ida Lapi. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 3-6 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 9 am Monday at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian burial at St. Madeleine Sophie Church 3500 Carman Rd., Guilderland. Burial, with military honors, will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Schenectady.
