Joseph Sangiovanni, 86, of Rotterdam, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018. Born in San Giovanni e Paolo, Caiazzo, Italy, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Laura Sangiovanni. Joseph worked as a Police Officer in Calabria for 4 years before coming to the United States in 1958. He was employed as a mechanic with Mangino’s in Schenectady for several years and opened Bellevue Body Works on Broadway in 1968. He also worked as a Mechanic with the Schalmont School District. Joseph enjoyed gardening, working on cars, hunting and fishing with his friends, traveling, spending time during the winter in Florida and being with his family and beloved grandchildren. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace and the Sons of Italy in Rotterdam. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lucia DeMarco Sangiovanni, two children; Laura (Jeffrey) Brown of Rotterdam and John (Franca) Sangiovanni of Rotterdam, his brother; Matteo (Late Anna) Sangiovanni of Guilderland, Brother in law and sisters in law; Pasquale and Rosa Sangiovanni of Italy, and Josephine DeMarco of Detroit, MI., four grandchildren; Michael (Kristy) Brown, Jennifer (Spencer) Baker, Joseph (Danielle) Sangiovanni and Lucio (Andrea) Sangiovanni, four great- grandchildren, Niece and nephew; Maria and Jerry Bianchi of Guilderland, as well as many other nieces and nephews in Italy and the United States. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, 8:30 from the funeral home, followed at 9:30 by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 210 Princetown Rd. Entombment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum in Niskayuna. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
