Joseph G. Hewitt, 94 passed away at home on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Joseph was born in Schuylerville, NY, the son of the late George and Julia Conroy Hewitt. He graduated from Schuylerville High School. Joseph was a World War II Army Veteran, serving three years in India as a Staff Sargeant. He supervised Chinese soldiers in the construction of an alternate route to the Burma Road, which was under the control of the Japanese. After his discharge, he attended Bentley College in Boston. Joseph was employed by the General Electric Co. as an Accountant in Schenectady and Malta retiring in 1982. He was predeceased by his daughter; Susan Hewitt, his sister; Marion Waring and his brothers; Donald and William Hewitt. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years; Evelyn Gardner Hewitt, his daughter; Nancy Hewitt , two sons; Peter and Joseph (Donna) Hewitt, his sisters; Katherine Racko, Julia and Patricia Hewitt and Eileen (Richard) Spelman , his brother; George (Rebecca) Hewitt, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning, 11 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union St. Schenectady. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private.
