Niskayuna – Joseph E Helstowski, 71, passed away Monday, August 30th, 2021 after a long illness surrounded by his loving family. Born in Schenectady Joe was the son of the late Mildred (Miner) and Anthony Helstowski. Joe was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, and earned an Associates Degree in Business from Schenectady County Community College. Retired from New York Department of Transportation, and owned and operated several bars and businesses over the course of years - The Iron Horse Inn Schenectady, Arnold’s Rotterdam, The Rose Garden Galway, & Mr. Party Rentals that he recently worked along side his son and grandchildren vending at various events. After his retirement he enjoyed food vending, buying and selling antiques and collectables, going to estate sales, garage sales and auctions. Joe was the life of the party, loved spending time with his family and friends and most importantly setting up his Santa Sleigh with his grandchildren every Christmas. He was a great mentor, beloved friend to all, loving and devoted husband to his wife Janet whom they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together, devoted father and best friend to his children and most importantly the best “poppy” any grandchild could ask for. He truly adored his family and friends. His laugh and smile would light up the room. Joe was predeceased by his parents Mildred (Miner) and Anthony Helstowski, brothers Leon, John and Thomas Helstowski. Is survived by his beloved wife Janet (Campo) Helstowski, his devoted children: Anthony (Nicole) Helstowski, Catherine (Edward) Rickert and Christine Helstowski. Devoted poppy to Abbigail Helstowski, Sean Rickert, Genevieve Rickert, Joseph Helstowski, Lara Helstowski, Miranda Helstowski. Also survived by his beloved sister Marilyn (James) Grant, sister-in-law Eiko Helstowski, sister-in-law Sandra (Edward) Beauparlant and several nieces, nephews and numerous close friends. Along with his loyal pets Butterscotch and Peanut. Our family would like to say a special thanks for those who truly cared and supported Joe throughout the years. Also want to thank our children and grandchildren for taking care of Joe over the past year and a half allowing us to spend time and make more memories until the end of Joe’s journey. Joe is going to be greatly missed by his family and friends, he lived his life to the fullest with no regrets, always made us laugh, made numerous friends throughout his life , and left great memories for each of us to treasure. Calling hours will be held Saturday September 11th from 9-11 am at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam followed by a 12 noon Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church 806 Union St., Schenectady. Burial will take place at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Family would like to invite family and friends to celebrate Joe’s life at Ferrari’s Restaurant following burial services.
