Rotterdam-Joseph Filippa, 90, of Rotterdam passed away on October 7 , 2014 after a brief illness. He was born in Pianopoli Catanzaro Italy on November 12, 1923. Joseph came to Schenectady NY with his family in 1960. He worked at the Wassermann's Meat Market and at the Grand Cash Market for many years before getting a job at General Electric as a brazier /welder. During his 28 years of retirement from GE he enjoyed spending time in his garden, especially tending to his fruit trees and grapevines. Joseph loved telling stories of his travels, especially ofAustralia ,where he lived for many years before coming to America. Joseph adored his family, especially his great grand kids He always said "What more can I want out of life! I had a great, supportive family and have been lucky enough to enjoy all my great grandchildren my life is a mission accomplished. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years Mariangela Fililppa who passed away in 2007 and by his sisters Raffaela Lento, Catrinuzza Lento and a brother Ciccio Filippa and by a caring nephew Vincenzo Filippa. Joseph is survived by his two daughters Maria (Sam) Guzzo of Plainville Ct and Fran (Pete) Haight of Rotterdam. Five grandchildren, Paul (Kim) Guzzo, Robert (Sidia) Guzzo, Janet (Rob) Timpano, Michael (Ellen) Haight and Jennifer (Luigi) Palleschi and nine great grandchildren Marisa and Gianna Guzzo, Kristen and Michael Timpano, Marianna Guzzo, Natalie and Alex Haight and Vanessa and Olivia Palleschi and many nieces and nephews. All funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that donations maybe made in Joseph's memory to the Rotterdam EMS 2007 Cardiff Road Schenectady NY 12303.
