Joseph M Fiano

Joseph M. Fiano, 82, of Rotterdam, died peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2018. Born in Schenectady, Joseph was the son of the late Theodore and Antoinette DiPietro Fiano. He was a graduate of Draper High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Albany Business College. Joe was employed as a Director with the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany and retired with 35 years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping in the Adirondacks with his grandchildren, spending time at his camp at Sacandaga, building and flying model airplanes and traveling with his late wife Nancy. In addition to his parents, Joe was also predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy Burch Fiano, who died in 2011, and his siblings, Jean Cervera, Philomena Favata, Victor Fiano and Mickey Eckler. He is survived by his children, JoAnn (Denis) Racicot of Las Vegas and Joseph (Pamala) Fiano of Rotterdam, brother in law Wayne Eckler, six grandchildren, Melissa (Todd) Crandall, Benjamin (Jessica) Hotaling, Michael (Mandy) Fiano, Christina (Dan) Obie-Fiano, Jessica Fiano and Amanda Neal, 11 great grandchildren, Tia, Chase, Benny, Joseph, Christopher, Adam, Isabella, Ella, Ethan, Emerson and Roland as well as several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 6-8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin on Friday, 8:45 am followed at 9:30 by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. Burial will follow at St’s Cyril and Method Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Glendale Nursing Home, 59 Hetcheltown Rd. Schenectady, 12302 or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
