Rotterdam – Joseph John Esposito, age 79, passed away on Friday, March 9th, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, after a short illness. A lifelong area resident, Joe was born in Schenectady to the late Anthony and Rose (Sarges) Esposito. After high school Joe honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Once returning home from overseas he attended Albany Business College earning his certificate in Accounting. During Joe’s 27 year career with Fruehauf Trailer Corporation in Albany, NY, he worked in several capacities, ending his time there as the branch’s Used Trailer Manager. Joe retired from Mabey’s Self Storage in Colonie, NY as Property Manager. Joe’s teenage years as a pin setter at Mt. Pleasant Lanes in Schenectady lead to his lifelong hobby as an avid bowler. He continued to be a league member up until the time he became ill. In addition to bowling, Joe was a lifetime NY Yankees enthusiast. During Joe’s retirement he enjoyed Thursday morning coffee with his old high school gang. Joe’s biggest joy was his family, especially his grandson, Nicholas, with whom he shared a love of baseball and the occasional poker game! Joe enjoyed his time at the beach and trips to Las Vegas. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Ann M. (Mastroianni) Esposito, his loving children, Anthony J. Esposito and JoAnn Jakowiw (Nick) and his cherished grandson, Nicholas J. Jakowiw. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his sister, Camille Connell. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 17th from 8:30-10:30am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue in Rotterdam. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11am at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 210 Princetown Road. Interment with military honors will be at St. Cyril and Method Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph Esposito’s name to the Albany Med Lung Cancer Program.
