Joseph Dipietro

October 14, 1930 — December 2, 2022

Rotterdam-Joseph DiPietro, 92, entered the loving arms of God on Friday, December 2, 2022, in the comfort of his home. Born on October 14, 1930 in Schenectady, New York, Joe was the son of the late Giuseppe DiPietro and Carmella Lucia “Lucy” (Catania) DiPietro. Joe was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Rosemarie (Manfredi) DiPietro. Joe was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School GE technical electrical apprentice program and began his career at the General Electric Company. Shortly after he began working, he went to serve in the United States Army. He was stationed throughout the United States as well as Vicenza Italy. He served proudly and respectfully. He also enjoyed reminiscing about his time spent in Italy. After returning from the US Army, Joe continued working at General Electric Company, including the Flight Test Center. During that time, while working full time and raising a family, Joe went to Union College and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering. He retired from GE as an electrical engineer in 1990. Joe had a huge heart for volunteering. He volunteered many hours over his lifetime at various places including the Schenectady Museum teaching children science and technology. He also organized Proctor shows, GEAA trips, and ringing the bell for the Salvation Army at Christmas. Joe was also a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, GEAA, GE Elfun and Rotterdam Elks Lodge, just to name a few. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Schenectady. He belonged to their Holy Name Society, Suscipiat Canora Society, was an usher, Eucharistic Minister and was an integral part of their yearly Festa. As an avid Yankee fan, he enjoyed coordinating yearly bus trips to Yankee Stadium for the church. Joe was a generous, thoughtful and giving man who was loved by many. He had a warm heart and giving spirit. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. You could count on him to be there to root you on or give “constructive criticism”. He also enjoyed traveling, whether it was small bus trips or visiting sites of other countries. Joe is predeceased by his brother Anthony DiPietro, his two sisters, Mary Gabriele and Raffaela Bunt. He is survived by his children, Diane DeFrancesco, David (Amy) DiPietro, Denise (Jim) Lagasse, his grandchildren, Danielle DeFrancesco, Gabrielle (Ryan) Donadio, Jacob and Derek Lagasse, Isabella DiPietro and great grandchild Brody Donadio as well as his sister-in-law Theresa Muth and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to the calling hours on December 9, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Schenectady, NY. A prayer service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 10:15 AM at the funeral home. At 11:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant Street, Schenectady, NY with Father Robert Hohenstein, officiating. Immediately following, there will be a procession to Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna where Joseph will be laid to rest and military honors will be offered by the US Army. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers who took such good care of Joe this past year and a half. Because of them, he was able to stay in his home he loved so much enjoying time spent with family. Members of the Rotterdam Elk’s Lodge #2157 will conduct their service Friday evening at 6 pm. The family requests any memorial contributions to be made in Joseph’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Schenectady City Mission, 425 Hamilton Street, Schenectady, NY 12305 or Make a Wish Foundation, 3 Washington Square, Albany, NY 12205
