Schenectady – Joseph Anthony Caracciolo passed away peacefully with his family at his side September 29, 2016, after a short stay at the Teresian House in Albany. Joesph was born August 12, 1928, and lived in Schenectady all of his life. He is predeceased by his parents Frank and Maria (Pensebene) Caracciolo who immigrated to Schenectady from Reggio Calabria, Italy, his son Frank Caracciolo, his sisters Marian Purcino (John), and Josephine D’Ammasso (Albert), his brother-in-laws William Galusha and Charles Allen. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Rose (Mazzola) Caracciolo, daughters Marianne Romano (Ron) and Carol Candeloro (Nick), grandchildren David and Joe Romano and Kim and Katie Candeloro, sisters Loretta Galusha and Helen Allen, sister-in-laws Ann Goodhart, Lucy Bowen and Louise Mazzola as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joe graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1946 and went on to earn a Bachelors degree in business from Siena College in Loudonville while also working with his father at F. Caracciolo and Son wholesale food distributors. Joe continued as owner and operator of F. Caracciolo and Son for over 40 years ultimately having the opportunity to work with his son Frank for over two decades before merging with Crisafulli Brothers Food Distributors in 1988 to form United Foods. He continued with United Foods for a number of years subsequent to the merger sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience in the food industry. Joe was extremely proud of his Italian heritage. He was a member of the Sons of Italy and the IDAKA Forum for many years, and enjoyed speaking Italian with his loyal customers. He was dedicated to his family and faith. Joe was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where he was a member of the Men’s Society as well as the Senior Association. He took great pride in providing leadership and expertise as past Chairman of the Mount Carmel Festa. Joe developed many friends throughout the country as a result of his extensive business career and his warm and kind demeanor. He was extremely generous, always willing to help family and friends or a young business owner just starting out. Joe loved talk to people and was comfortable in any situation especially when telling stories about life experiences. He enjoyed life and will be sorely missed by his family and all that he touched. The family would like to thank the 5th floor staff at Teresian House for their loving and compassionate care. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Schenectady. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home followed by a 11:00 a.m. mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Pleasant Street in Schenectady. Interment will be in Schenectady at Saint Johns Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant Street Schenectady or to a charity of your choice.
