Jose Acevedo, 89, passed away peacefully at home on April 10, 2018 after a long illness. He was born August 31, 1928 in Aguadilla Puerto Rico. His parents were the late Jose and Maria Ramos Acevedo. Jose moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1944. He served in the US Army from 1946 to 1947, stationed primarily in Japan. He married the love of his life, Noemi Gomez, on October 9, 1948. They were married for 65 years until she passed away in December 2013. From 1954 to 1959, he worked for several TV stations in Puerto Rico as their Technical Director. Jose and his family moved back to Brooklyn in 1959 to be closer to their family. From 1959 until his retirement in 1994, he was employed as an Electronics Technician. From 1968 until 1994, he was employed by Millivac Instruments in Colonie, NY. Jose is survived by his son, Joseph Acevedo, his granddaughter, Nicole Acevedo and her husband, Collin Smith, great grandchildren; Corbin Smith and Naomi Smith. He is also survived by his beloved sister; Aurelia Caban, sisters in law; Nilda Acevedo and Armida Ramos, brothers in law; Manuel Gomez, Jose Gomez and Hector Gomez as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jose was also predeceased by his father in law and mother in law, Ramon and Josefa Gomez, his brothers; Aurelio Acevedo and Felix Acevedo, his daughter in law; Joann Acevedo and his brothers in law; Ramon and David Gomez. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, from 7:30 am to 9 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. followed at 10 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Kateri Tekakwitha, 1803 Union St. Schenectady. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Rotterdam.
