Joline Turnell Bender

Guilderland - Joline Turnell Bender, 83, passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Buffalo, NY on May 7, 1931 a daughter of the late Nelson and Marcella Turnell. Joline was educated in Jamestown, NY and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from New York-Presbyterian at Columbia University. Her career as a registered nurse spanned many years working at several local hospitals and she later retired from CDPHP.Joline was an active member of Mill Hill Missionaries, Christ the King and St. Madeline Sophie parishes in Guilderland and dedicated her life to helping those around her.She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who was committed to her family and faith.She enjoyed gardening, crafting and sewing as well as spending her summers on Cape Cod. However spending time with her grandchildren was her true passion.Joline's beloved husband Leslie Bender predeceased her in November of 1987 and she is survived by their children Mary( Steven) Hallenbeck of Guilderland, Patrick(Jeanne) Bender of Guilderland, Marcella Bender (Charles Rockwell) of Menands, Daniel (Danielle) Bender of Ocean Bluff, MA. and Rachel (Eric) Johnson of Guilderland.She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Kate, Andrew, Zachary, Claire , Alyssa, Aaron, Victoria, Caroline and Noah as well as her beloved sister and brother Sherry (Al) Propheter of Jamestown, NY and Daniel (Barbara) Turnell of Colonie, NY.She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended family who she cherished. The family would like to thank her doctors for their patience, care and compassion during her long illness. In keeping with Joline's wishes there are no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday March 7, 2015 at St. Madeleine Sophie Church on Carmen Road in Schenectady. Interment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery on Troy Schenectady Road in Niskayuna, NY.
