John Di Sorbo

January 6, 1929 — May 5, 2021

John Di Sorbo, 92, of FL, formerly of Danvers MA and Schenectady NY, passed away surrounded by loved ones on May 5th, 2021 after a short-term battle with pancreatic cancer. John was born on January 6th, 1929 to Stephen and Mary (Mone) Di Sorbo in Schenectady, NY. After graduating from Mont Pleasant High School in 1947, he went on to study at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY. In 1950 he was declared and certified a member of Tau Beta Pi (Gamma Chapter) after having maintained a rank in Scholarship in the first fifth of his class during his time at RPI. He graduated with his B.S. of Electrical Engineering in 1951. After graduation, John served in the U.S. Navy as a commissioned officer from 1951 to 1954 on the U.S.S. Fiske and the U.S.S. William M. Wood. Upon his completion of service, John began to work for MIT and Draper Labs, which kickstarted a near 40-year career as an engineering team lead and a senior program manager. He retired in 1993. John had a life-long passion for golf. He played weekly with good friends from Draper and made new golf friends when he moved to FL. His favorite joke was that he really liked playing a round in the 60s, but any colder than that he would pass! John was a kind-hearted man, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. John had a special place in his heart for his children and grandchildren along with their spouses, and his great-grandchildren. John is survived by his loving companion Joan, his two sons; Stephen (Linda) and John (Anne-Marie), three grandsons; Daniel (Krystle), Joseph (Krystal), Robert (Allie), and great-grandchildren; Ryder, Weston, Margot, John, Kayli and Trinity. He also leaves behind his sister Rose Marie, sister-in-law Patricia, and nephews Joseph, Antony and Andrew. John was predeceased by his mother, Mary, his father Stephen, and his siblings, Philomena, Angelina, Joseph, Antonio and James. John's love and friendship will forever live on in all of us that were blessed to be part of his life. He was and will always be an inspiration to his beloved family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 3040 Hamburg Street, Schenectady on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 10:30 am., followed by a burial at the Saints Cyril and Method Cemetery, Rotterdam NY.
