Delanson - John D. Nicol Jr., 47, Captain in the City of Schenectady Fire Department, passed away Monday August 12, 2013 as a result of an ATV accident while doing something he loved. Born in Schenectady on August 9, 1966, John was a 1984 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Following High School John attended SUNY Maritime College in New York City and then went on to serve our country in the United States Army. On March 19, 1990 John began his career with the City of Schenectady Fire Department where He was a dedicated firefighter. John loved to be outside where he was an avid sportsman which included hunting, fishing and the appreciation and respect of nature. He is survived by the love of his life; Karen Tygert and her daughters, Julia and Emily. His two children; Joshua D. Nicol of Arkansas and Stephanie E. Nicol of Sharon Springs. His father; J. Dennis Nicol of Charleston 4 corners. His brother; Brian Nicol of Cherry Valley and his sister, Tammy Lynn (Nicol) Rollins of Howes Cave. John is also survived by several aunts, uncles and many cousins. John was predeceased by his mother, Janet Nicol who passed away in 1996. Calling hours, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held Friday from 5-8 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church 812 Union St., Schenectady. All active and retired Schenectady Firefighters are asked to meet at St. John the Evangelist Church for a 7 p.m. prayer service. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Church.
