Rotterdam-John (Johnny Moe) Russell Mosher, 61, of Rotterdam was taken peacefully into eternal life while at the Veteran's Medical Center Hospice, (Heroes Way) in Albany, NY on Monday, September 14th, 2015 following a long illness, with his family at his side. Born in Meriden, CT, son of John Edward and Phyllis (Pulver) Mosher, he moved with his family at an early age to Rotterdam . He attended Mohonasen High School, then enlisted and served with the US Army for 3 years in Germany. He married Colleen Irish in 1984. He worked for several years in Ellis Hospital Emergency Room, Mohawk Ambulance Service, Tougher Industries, and Plank Co., before being disabled with service-related lung disease. John will be always be remembered for his love of his family and friends, his thoughtful and generous nature, his "never give up" spirit, his great sense of humor, his kindness and his loyalty (which extended to the NY Giants and NY Yankees). He loved playing golf, watching TV sports, science shows, reading, and the dogs he adopted during his lifetime. Survivors include his beloved son Benjamin John Mosher, his mother Phyllis Clas (Thomas), sisters Jane Capello (Ronald), Betsy Murray (John), and Denise Hoblock. Also survived by nieces Amy Kennedy (Dr. Alexander), Michele Ward (Thomas), and nephews Christopher Houghton (Heather), Howard Russell (Carol Ann), Dr. Seth Capello (Tricia) , 12 great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as many "friends for life".He was predeceased by his father. John's family wishes to thank the dedicated professionals of the VA Hospital, who cared for him so well over the years of his illness, while at home, in the Intensive Care Unit, and in the Hospice Unit. Their excellent care, with their skills as well as their hearts, made his transition as easy as possible. A funeral service will commence at the the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam on Monday, September 21 at 9:00 AM, followed by burial in Saratoga National Cemetery where military honors will be offered.Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Sunday, September 20, from 4:00-7:00 PM.In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his memory to Disable American Veterans, Stratton VAMC, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208 or to Heroes' Way Hospice at the same address.
