Rotterdam – John E. Melnyk, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. John was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on March 30, 1939. He was the son of John and Anna Melnyk. John graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also was a veteran of the United States Army. John was the Gas Supervisor at National Grid in Albany and was employed there for over 35 years until he finally retired. His co-workers always commented that he was a hard worker and wonderful manager overall. He was an avid photographer, always enjoying capturing the moment. He enjoyed taking long walks and drives, enjoying the peace and scenery. He was predeceased by his parents John and Anna as well as his loving wife Diane. John is survived by his children Celeste Liverio-Tyler (Robert) of Rotterdam and Richard Melnyk (Linda) of Rotterdam Junction; grandchildren, Bradey Liverio, Savanna Liverio, Annalise Tyler, Joseph Melnyk (Abbey), and Nicole Farrell (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Logan Koch and Declan Farrell; brother James Melnyk (Gale); sister Bette Lasko (Eddie) and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam on Saturday July 28th, 2018 from 1-4PM. The family sincerely thanks the caring and professional staff at The Grand Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for their excellent care and treatment of John during his time there. He will always be remembered by the staff as “Blue Eyes”. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are asked to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
