John R Massaroni

Glenville - John R. Massaroni passed away after a short illness on Wednesday, February 15th, 2017, at Ellis Hospital. Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, on August 6th, 1954, the son of the late Robert Massaroni, and survived by his mother, Mary L. Massaroni of Schenectady. John graduated from Draper High School in 1972 and from Siena College in 1975; he received his juris doctorate from Pace University Law School in 1979. John was a successful attorney in the Capital District for almost 40 years. Some of his many professional accomplishments include: 2000-2001 Strathmore’s Who’s Who Leadership Achievement Award; President’s Award from N.Y. State Trial Lawyers Association (twice); Membership in Million Dollar Advocates forum; President of Capital District N.Y. State Trial Lawyer Association. In addition to his career as a trial attorney, John was an authorized NFL Player’s Association contract advisor. Throughout his distinguished career, John obtained numerous substantial jury awards for his clients. As a proud Italian American, John was an active member of the Sons of Italy local lodge #321 and the Italian American Bar Association. When John was not advocating for his clients, he was busy pursuing his passion for acting and cooking. He was a member of the Schenectady Civic Players Group and appeared in several local productions. His love of cooking culminated in the opening of the restaurant Mio Vino in Altamont, New York, which received critical acclaim. In his free time John enjoyed weight-lifting, spending time with his three dogs, and watching his favorite show Seinfeld. In addition to his mother John is survived by his former wife Julie, daughter Jonna (Mark) Lyons, his sisters Vicki Massaroni, Lisa (Dan) Irizarry, and Robert (Lynn) Massaroni; his nieces and nephews; Bianca Germain, Scot (Chelcy) Rowe, Blaire Massaroni, Isabel Irizarry and Daniel Irizarry. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4-7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 10 am Monday at the funeral home followed by an 11 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and the ASPCA, PO Box 96929 Washington, DC 20090-6929.
