John "Jack" Houck

Rotterdam- John “Jack” Houck, 71, son of William and Grace Houck, passed away on September 11, 2021 surrounded by his family. Born in Niskayuna, NY on July 31, 1950, Jack grew up on Ballston Lake. After High School, Jack would go on to enlist in the U.S. Navy where he served honorably in Vietnam. He enjoyed playing softball and was a member of several different leagues over the years. Jack was an avid fan of the NY Yankees and San Francisco 49ers. Owning a camp at Alpine Lake for the past 11 years, Jack earned the honorary title of “Mayor” as he was always lending a helping hand to those in need, whether he knew them or not. A devoted father and grandfather, he was always there whenever he was needed. He never missed a sporting event that they played or cheered in. His most cherished thing was being “Papa” to his only grandson Cameron. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Gail Houck, his children; Kimberly (Warren) Gordon, John “Jack” Houck Jr. (Crystal Nussbaumer), his grandson, Cameron Houck, his sister, Virginia Attanasio, his brother, Thomas (Diane) Houck, several nieces, nephews, and many loving friends. He is predeceased by his sisters; Pauline France and Josephine Horn, and his brother, Frank Santillo. Calling hours will be held this Wednesday, September 15, from 5pm-8pm at the Demarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Schenectady, NY. A Funeral Service will take place this Thursday, September 16 at 10am at the Funeral Home. Jack will be laid to rest at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Avenue Scotia, NY 12302, or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
