John P. Hotaling, 71, of Duanesburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 30, 2016.Born in New York City on October 5, 1944 to John and Alice Hotaling, John spent his youth in Roscoe where he learned to love the outdoors and became an avid fisherman and hunter.He graduated from Roscoe Central School in 1962 and attended UAlbany where he became a member of Alpha Pi Alpha and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master's Degree. While at UAlbany he met Kathleen who became his wife, best friend, and fishing partner foralmost 49 years. Together they raised a family and enjoyed time on Duane Lake.Travelingwith students and friends and vacationingin Chincoteague, VA and the Florida Keys provided many memorable times. Mr Hotaling taught science for two years at Hackett Junior High School and then American History and Economics at Guilderland High School.He taught all academic levels and enjoyed them all.While at GCHS he coached football, lacrosse, and golf at frosh, JV, and Varsity levels."Coach Ho" was instrumental in establishing high school lacrosse in the Capitol District area.Mr. Hotaling loved teaching and coaching. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, son John, daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Marcus, and beloved grandchildren Liam, Sadie, John William, and Claire. He is also survived by his brothers Harry and Michael, their wives, and many nieces and nephews.John was predeceased by his son John Michael. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Tpk. (Rt. 20) in Guilderland. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, 11:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Rotterdam. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving money to the City Mission of Schenectady, PO Box 760, Schenectady, NY 12301-0760.
